Pyreos was formed in 2007 to take advantage of the growing market for advanced infrared sensor technology in gas detection, motion sensing and spectroscopic analysis.

Siemens contributed seed technology in the form of proprietary developments and a patent portfolio for ceramic thin film MEMs IR sensor technology. Siemens had already invested over 75 man years (around €10m) into this technology and spun it out into Pyreos to ensure broader market-based growth.

Meet the team

Board of directors

Howard Ford
Howard brings a wealth of experience to the Company having served on the boards of both privately-held and public companies, as well as having many years of operational experience in developing businesses. Previous executive roles include: Chief Executive of BT Cellnet; General Manager of IBM’s European PC business; and Managing Director of what is now France Telecom.
Andrew Wallace
Andrew has a successful commercial and general management record developing and launching new technologies and services. He has worked mainly in electronics, sensors and telecoms, focusing on product management and strategic business development. He has lived in 3 continents and speaks three languages.
Andy Laing
Andy joined Pyreos in November 2015, bringing a wealth of operational and finance experience across venture-backed software start-ups, high-growth SMEs and publicly traded marketing groups. Most recently, Andy spent four years at early stage investor, Archangels, raising equity capital and securing exits in Scotland’s flourishing technology sector.
Mark Boggett
Seraphim Investor Director
An active investor in technology across all sectors and stages, Mark has served on numerous boards throughout his venture career. He is Seraphim Capital’s Managing Director and a Managing Partner.
Ed Granville
London Business Angels Investment Director
Ed is an experienced entrepreneur and technologist having spent over 20 years in the semiconductor industry. In 2008 he was co-founder and CTO of Calvatec Ltd, a semiconductor company specialising in mixed-signal System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, which was acquired by Maxim Integrated Products. He has extensive expertise in semiconductors and technology development within the consumer market, in environments ranging from start-ups & SMEs, to global players.

Management team

John Miller
VP Business Development
John has extensive business development experience in the US, Asia and Europe. He spent 10 years as a Switch Mode Power Supply design engineer specialising on DC:DC converters and has 15 years of international and strategic marketing experience of Power Discretes at Philips. He worked in sales management for Semtech, product management for franchises within the Memec Distribution group and was COO of Cambridge Semiconductor.
Gary Osborne
VP Engineering
Gary joined Pyreos in 2015 and is responsible for product development and customer support. His career started in R&D at UK computer pioneers Apricot. At digital TV specialists Pace he was Engineering Manager and later moved to M&A, Product Management covering EMEA and Asia-Pac, and Business Development. He has also held senior roles with US tech giant EchoStar, being responsible for key innovative products in new markets.
Ken Williamson
VP Operations
Ken joined Pyreos in Autumn 2016 and has 35 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry, including more than 10 years in the SmartCard supply and foundry business. Originally a EEE graduate, Ken brings a profound knowledge across many aspects of manufacturing. He has worked for NatSemi, Siemens, Atmel and others and has been based in Germany, Switzerland and the USA. Ken also has operational experience in taking new-start technology companies into high volume manufacturing.
John Phair
John joined Pyreos in 2016 and leads the development team. Since graduating from the University of Melbourne with a doctorate in chemical engineering, Dr Phair has gained international experience working as a research associate at the National Research Council in Washington, DC, a post-doctoral fellow at the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia, and a scientist at the Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy at the Technical University of Denmark. Dr Phair joined Pyreos from poLight, a Norwegian company that develops autofocus lens components based on piezo technology for mobile applications.
